What is it about being emersed in nature that has the power to calm and soothe us?  In our busy, fast-paced world, a little dose of nature is sometimes, just what we need.

Escape Toronto's concrete jungle for a restorative day in Nature. 

Shinrin-yoku is a term that means "taking in the forest atmosphere" or "forest bathing." It was developed in Japan during the 1980s and has become a cornerstone of preventive health care and healing in Japanese medicine. Researchers in Japan have established a robust body of scientific literature on the health benefits of spending time under the canopy of a living forest.  Now their research is helping to establish Shinrin-yoku and forest therapy throughout the world. 

 

The practice of Forest Bathing involves slowing down and a meditative 'tuning into' the forest environment, engaging the senses. 

 

A generation ago, we spent MUCH more time in nature.  As we've drifted away from that as a society, we've begun to lose the healthful benefits of time spent in nature.  As city dwellers spend more time in urban settings and spend most of their lives connected to screens, it's becoming more and more crucial to take the time for ventures into nature for stress reduction and overall wellbeing.
